Dear Glen Residents,
With the upcoming freezing temperatures and projected inclement weather on the rise, we would like to send out a couple of reminders.
If we get as much snow as predicted, we may not have trash pickup on Monday. Please make sure that your trash is properly contained, boxes broken down, and recycling bins are being used for recyclable items only.
Please note that if you haven’t already done so, your outdoor spigots should be turned off, hoses removed (water remaining in hoses can freeze and travel up the pipe and freeze) and drain any remaining water left in the pipe. This will prevent any frozen/burst pipes. Please also be sure to check your building’s black rubber down-spouts to make sure nothing is blocking the end of the spout. Leaves and dirt are often inside the spout at the ground level. When ice starts melting in the top gutters, it will backup if the water can’t flow freely.
Please see the following from our snow removal team at ProGrounds:
Reminders for Residents
- This is the most forecasted snow since the 2016 storm (9 years ago) residents NEED to be patient. They’ve already declared a State of Emergency in VA and people should NOT travel tomorrow unless there is an emergency. Most everything will be closed.
- It may be snowing hard enough at times during the storm that we cannot travel safely and/or extremely poor visibility will prevent us (and other contractors, VDOT etc.) to even plow streets and may have to wait until conditions are save enough to plow safely. We must be able to see what we are doing.
- Just because it stops snowing doesn’t mean their road will be immediately plowed. It’s supposed to snow for 22+ hours and will take us time to get everywhere. If your street is plowed others aren’t.
- People will try to drive places, cars will get stuck, roads will be closed and we may not be able to get to certain neighborhoods until after cars are towed.
- PLEASE don’t let kids build snow forts in the giant snow piles near streets or play in the streets. They can build forts in a front yard, back yard anywhere else but not AT or IN the street. Kids want to make forts and play, we get it, but this is obviously extremely dangerous with trucks driving around plowing snow and pushing snow into these piles.
Residents should get what they need now as travel will be extremely difficult if not impossible, Sunday Night through Tuesday Morning. STAY HOME.
Again, from the NWS..“Persons should consider delaying all travel. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a winterstorm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing. Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help you survive in case you become stranded.
Management continues to monitor the weather and freezing temperatures, and will dispatch our contractors and site staff for ice treatment and snow removal, as needed.
Stay safe and warm!
