Dear Glen Residents,

With the upcoming freezing temperatures and projected inclement weather on the rise, we would like to send out a couple of reminders.

We have been advised that there will be no trash pick-up on Wednesday the 12th, due to the pending weather conditions. We will keep you advised of pick-up procedures for Thursday. Please make sure that your trash is properly contained, boxes broken down, and recycling bins are being used for recyclable items only.

Please note that if you haven’t already done so, your outdoor spigots should be turned off, hoses removed (water remaining in hoses can freeze and travel up the pipe and freeze) and drain any remaining water left in the pipe. This will prevent any frozen/burst pipes. Please also be sure to check your building’s black rubber down-spouts to make sure nothing is blocking the end of the spout. Leaves and dirt are often inside the spout at the ground level. When ice starts melting in the top gutters, it will backup if the water can’t flow freely.

Please see the following from our snow removal team at ProGrounds:

Reminders for Residents

Sometimes during snow evens residents get frustrated that the roads aren’t plowed wide enough.  Please understand that snowplows push snow left and push snow right and create windrows/piles of snow on each side. We can’t push these too wide as they would get super close to cars and/or against cars. We must leave room between the car and the pile of snow we can’t push it into them.  Townhome streets can get very narrow.

    1. Do not throw snow back into streets when cleaning off the cars as it gets compacted in place and turns to ice.  We had one entire street throw all their snow into the road a few years ago and it was too deep to plow. We had to bring in a skid loader and dig out the entire road.
    2. They’ve already declared a State of Emergency in VA and people should NOT travel today unless there is an emergency. Most everything will be closed.
    3. Snowfall rates of 1-2” per hour are possible late Tuesday night. It may be snowing hard enough at times during the storm that we cannot travel safely and/or extremely poor visibility will prevent us (and other contractors, VDOT etc.) to even plow streets and may have to wait until conditions are safe enough to plow safely.  We must be able to see what we are doing.
    4. Just because it stops snowing doesn’t mean their road will be immediately plowed. It’s supposed to snow for 18+ hours and will take us time to get everywhere. If your street is plowed others aren’t.
    5. People will try to drive places, cars will get stuck, roads will be closed, and we may not be able to get to certain neighborhoods until after cars are towed.
    6. PLEASE don’t let kids build snow forts in the giant snow piles near streets or play in the streets.  They can build forts in a front yard, back yard anywhere else but not AT or IN the street.  Kids want to make forts and play, we get it, but this is obviously extremely dangerous with trucks driving around plowing snow and pushing snow into these piles.

Management continues to monitor the weather and freezing temperatures, and will dispatch our contractors and site staff for ice treatment and snow removal, as needed.

Stay safe and warm!
